I spoke to a fellow marketer at a convention a couple weeks ago and he said something that I couldn’t believe. He said that the age of door knob hangers was gone. A thing of the past. Sunken to the deep abyss with Davey Jones’ locker. Ironically enough, when I returned home from my trip, a nice door knob hanger welcomed me. This one was a new age door hanger, it had several different companies listed on it and I was hungry. I found a place that delivered and ended up ordering. The food was good and the door hanger still sits on my desk. You may think I’m a bit too obsessed with door hangers, but that’s not the case. I’m obsessed with good marketing that works. And door hangers work, I’m living proof.
What better way to target a specific demographic than targeted marketing? You know that your business is going to get most of its clients from a 5 mile radius. You don’t have to spend a lot of money on postage by sending out a direct mail piece. You can do some leg work and hang them on people’s door knobs. They have to see it and make a decision. Read it or toss it. And most of the time they read it. So when they say that door knob hangers are dead, I think they’ll hang around much longer than other forms of marketing.
